Playoffs |
Cubs changes work out, look ahead to O-ten. New faces helped reach Playoff goal. You could argue that the off season changes at the start of '09 did help the Bears on field efforts this year. The goal if joining the playoff hunt, which the team missed out on in the 2 previous sesons was realized. Some new faces helped lead the way and some veterans remained solid. Greg Belshaw was great on the mound and Blaine Mattews starred in center field all year. Both players had decent stats at the plate as well. Greg Filice proved his versatility at SS, on the Mound and behind the dish. He setteled in nicely as a speedy lead off batter as well. Steady veterans Robbie Hall and Derek Vanesse remain to be the Cubbies heart and soul as always. The rest of the squad chipped in all year long and made their contributions. The Bears achilles heal remains to be at the plate. The offseason will find the Cubs searching for some offensive spark either from within or from the addition of new recruits. Injured Scott Purdie and Jamie Robinson should fit that bill when they are expected to join the team full time next season. So, as the Bears go into hibernation for the winter, we wish everyone, players, family and friends a safe, happy and healthy hiatus until the warm days of spring return. |
